Tomas was out bright and early, fortunately I'd had coffee!

He gave me good news on Woody and Charm, both are progressing along well.  Charm's still growing alot of toe, but her hooves are finally starting to look normal.  Woody is progressing too.  Still has signs of founder, but standing in a more comfortable position and his hoof looks much improved.  Tomas suggested more exercise so we're turning them out into one of the larger paddocks - uphill. Hopefully this will help with keeping their blood circulating.

He also trimmed the foals (Bruiser and Rose), what a PiA Bruiser was today.  This weaning is making him excessively unhappy.  I've never had a foal react so badly.  He was sweaty, and pissy and just angry.  I finally relented.  He may be over six months, but he's not ready to be away from mom yet.  I guess he'll get weaned with Bambam.

We did separate Chiclet too, much to Rose's displeasure, she's in an adjacent pen, but Chiclet is getting to thin.  I really hate weaning a variety of aged foals. It's so much easier when they go as a group!  Chiclet doesn't seem to mind, she usually looks forward to her babies going 'bye-bye'.  She's now on free choice hay to get her weight back up.

Other than that the trimming was a breeze.  The rest of the gang it's so old hat they just cooperate.

Noomi was out loose with the Minis for the first time.  She was great and was tasted by Rose and April.  Apparently white dogs have a different flavor!  She took it all in stride and is doing wonderfully here, well except when she's in the house.  Apparently our chairs taste much better than her toys, so we're losing the front of one if we don't watch her carefully.

Work continues on re-arranging the front paddocks.  What seems so easy on paper is alot of work!  Hopefully once it's done it will be more user-friendly for feeding/water and storing boys and any sick horses.

My dream to wipe out all our fencing and start over.  Where is that lotto money?

What's with the weather? Wet, windy and hmm this is May, right?  Feels like January.  I'm glad for the green as it prolongs our hills being green and the flies aren't out yet - two big yeahs! 

Foaling is still the waiting game.  Waiting on Chiclet and now Libbe to see if they're going to foal in the worst of this new storm or hold out for better weather.  Baybee is also being carefully watched.

Took the camera out last night and took a few photos of the gang and ended up with the roan edition.  Bruiser  has that normal chinchilla color I associate with blue roans at birth.  He could surprise us and go black but I doubt it.  I think he'll like his two siblings and be a blue roan under the baby fuzz.

Clean up and uncovering stuff

Spent most of the day cleaning up old files on the PC.  Good thing to do on a really wet day.  I'm so glad the pregnant mares are holding out on foaling. Hate slogging through mud.  Bruiser was really put out this morning with the rain and refused to go out.  Just screamed at his dam, for being crazy enough to wander around in the rain to eat!

While I've been cleaning up the harddrive (getting ready to reformat this PC), I did uncover some gems that I've had stored away for years!  It's amazing what I keep... everything from feeding, to breeding to equine humor, etc.  Some of the old e-newsletter I sent out a few years back.

So, I've been redoing, updating some and will posting them on the blog.  I am crediting authors if known, and will definitely note those I haven't a clue who wrote them - so if anyone reads something that they can tell me the source I'd be thrilled to now that!  I'm also going to start listing just a few of the photos I've had stored for years - I think it's 500+ photos of Minis collected over the years.


Last night had the Kiega and Bruiser in the backyard.  They're so adorable together.  Fiesty little pair and take after Ringo - constantly dropped, checking out the mares!  Kiega is the friendlier of the two, but Bruiser will learn. 

Still watching Baybee and Chiclet.  I know Baybee is going to be hard to judge when she's due as we don't have a cover date, and she's a maiden.  Remy I seesaw - pregnant, fat, pregnant, fat.  So we're treating her as pregnant.
 
I did notice Libbe looks rounder than I she should be, but at this point I think everyone's secretly pregnant. 

Everyone is suspect to me!

The most PG looking horse here though is Ray, our gelding.  He's the old style mini and overweight as it is.  He loves his hay and doesn't miss feeding time ever.  He's one of the few that I've ever forced on a diet as he can get so chunky, so quickly.
